How Much CBD Oil Should I Give My Dog?

How Much CBD Oil Should I Give My Dog?

May is National Pet Month, so it’s time to treat your best buddy with products that will keep him on-the-go for years to come. You love the benefits that CBD provides, and you want to share those therapeutic effects with your precious pup, but you’re asking yourself “how much CBD Oil should I give my dog?” Just like with humans, guidelines for CBD dosage for dogs are extremely variable but considering factors like age, weight and severity of issues can help you determine how often and how much CBD Oil you should give your dog.

CBD Dosage for Dogs

The handy Hemp Bombs CBD dosing calculator below gives you a recommended dosage based on your dog’s weight:

Based on this calculator, a 40-pound female Border Collie experiencing separation anxiety would need an 8mg dose of CBD about 20 minutes before you leave to feel relief. This requires 39, 36 or 5 drops of the 125mg, 300mg and 1000mg Pet CBD Oil respectively.

If your pet needs more than 20 drops per serving, then it may be more helpful to buy a higher concentration. More concentrated oils help you give your pet smaller, more concise doses. It can get difficult to keep track of how many drops you’ve already given your pet, not to mention that using less oil per serving will give you more bang for your buck.

For example, Daisy the Doberman weighs 87 pounds and suffers from arthritis in her front legs. Her mobility has decreased, and her appetite is declining due to the pain. Although both the 125mg and 1000mg oils would provide results, it’s more manageable to give Daisy 11 drops of oil as compared to 84 or more.

Due to her weight, you may have to find a dose between the 80 and 90-lb recommendation. Don’t worry, giving your pup a few extra drops won’t cause any adverse side effects.

Dosing for CBD Dog Treats

Giving your pup our savory CBD dog biscuits can make administering the proper CBD dosage for dogs quick and easy. There’s no measuring involved, simply give your pup the treat and she’ll love it. This low-calorie snack delivers a potent dose of CBD and tastes delicious.

For larger dogs, you may want to stick to oil. In Daisy’s case, she’d need about 2 biscuits to receive the full effects of this natural compound. You can always sprinkle our CBD Pet Oil onto your normal dog treats to give your pet the boost she needs.

How Often Should I Give My Pet CBD?

Depending on your pet’s health issues, you may want to give her the CBD dosage for dogs daily, 1-2 times a day. If your pet suffers from separation or situational anxiety, giving her a dose of CBD before you leave for the day or before she starts to feel anxious may be helpful. For pets with chronic pain or persistent issues, administering doses throughout the day may help reduce discomfort and promote healing.

CBD is for healthy pets too. Giving your buddy a daily dose of CBD can support her health and boost her immune system. Consistency is key when it comes to CBD, so the more you use it, the more your pet’s body can balance itself out. Setting a schedule and continuing to use this product may help alleviate her issues more effectively.

What If I Give My Dog Too Much CBD?

You don’t have to worry about giving your pet too much CBD because there are no adverse side effects associated with this natural compound. There are no reported cases of fatal effects or overdose associated with large doses of CBD in humans or animals. Don’t fret if your best buddy got into the cabinet and happened to take all the CBD, she may feel nauseous and more tired than usual but after a nap and a regular meal, she should level out.

CBD is a substance that works with your pet’s body to help her achieve homeostasis. Because her body naturally produces cannabinoids, the added effects of CBD help strengthen her bodily function. There is no right answer when determining “how much CBD Oil I should give my dog,” so it may take some trial and error to find the best CBD dosage for dogs. Always consult your veterinarian when adding new products to your pup’s daily regimen. Learn more about CBD for Separation Anxiety and prevalent dog allergies.

Would you please explain the difference(s) between cbd and hemp?

    Thank you.

      Hi Helen,
Hemp is made from pressing the seeds of the hemp plant. It has vitamin E, Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids. It is antioxidant rich. It has only mild traces of CBD.
CBD is made from the whole plant including the flowers and leaves. It has a higher concentration of CBD. It also has all the medicinal benefits of CBD which can include help with: pain, sleep or insomnia, anxiety, muscle spasms and antioxidants.
I hope this has helped you!

Martyn, I am so sorry about your dog! We do not have a doctor or a vet on staff here, so you would have to speak with his vet about the CBD or just try it and see if it helps. If you sign up for our newsletter, here on our website, you will get a coupon for your first order. Look at the oil or the treats. There is a dosing chart there that gives the serving sizes. If you go to the actual product on this website and click on the oil or the biscuits, you can scroll down and read some of the customer reviews. Maybe that can help you decide as well. Good luck with your fur-baby, Martyn!

For chronic pain do I give her the recommended dosage split in half for twice-daily or do I give her the recommended dose both times? This is our 1st time using CBD. Gypsy is an 11 year old 130 lb Great Dane female with arthritic hips. So hard for her to get up and go down steps. Hope this helps!

You can give her as much as it takes to help her. She cannot overdose, but she could get real tired.
