WHAT IS CBD OIL?

CBD Oil vs. Hemp Oil

Take a look around the internet and you will see both “CBD Oil” and “Hemp Oil” advertised for many of the same benefits. Is there a difference?

Short Answer...There can be.

CBD Oil is perhaps the most well known of all CBD products, and is certainly the most-searched. Often, news resources and publications outside of the CBD industry discuss CBD Oil without mentioning edibles, e-liquids, or other CBD consumables. Because of the sheer interest in CBD Oil, we prepared this page to give some background to CBD Oil and to look at Hemp Bombs’ CBD Oil with greater focus.

In its common form, CBD Oil is an oil made from the extract of low-THC Hemp, also known as Industrial Hemp. Technically, in order to be called “Industrial Hemp,” a plant must contain less than .3% THC, even in locations like buds and leaves known to be more THC-rich.

What many companies, like Hemp Bombs, do is extract the CBD from the plant by various methods into a powder, called CBD Isolate.

The cleanest method for extraction is called CO2 Extraction. You can read our more detailed review of CBD CO2 Extraction for more information.

In that process, a circuit of machinery removes chemicals, pesticides, and other materials from the plant, readying the extract for production.

Once separated, the extract often contains other Cannabinoids like CBGA, CBDA, and CBCA as well as pure CBD.

Hemp Oil follows a similar process and can be the same product as CBD Oil. Here, the only reason Hemp Oil is labeled differently is because there is less static surrounding it than CBD.

Sometimes, “Hemp Oil” refers to the oil from pressed Hemp Seeds. In this scenario, Hemp Oil is a different product than CBD Oil because it involves a different extraction method.

CBD Oil in the Endocannabinoid System

The public is only recently starting to uncover the reasons that CBD is helping so many people. It all starts with something called the Endocannabinoid System.

The Endocannabinoid System is maybe the most important internal system humans have to regulate health.

Receptors from this system are found in locations all throughout the body, including the:

  • Brain
  • Connective Tissues
  • Glands
  • Immune Cells
  • Organs

Receptors coordinate together to create balance within your body.

These receptors, called CB1 and CB2, activate certain physiological processes in the body when stimulated.

Whenever Cannabidiol enters your body and interacts with these receptors, biological processes begin to work.

Because this network of receptors is so widespread throughout the body including in the brain, immune cells, and organs, many think this system is responsible for the huge variety of reported CBD benefits.

CBD Oil Benefits

While it’s the Cannabidiol and not the product itself that is important for health, the most common CBD treatment is CBD Oil. With a sprawling network all throughout the body, the Endocannabinoid System is said to have some of the following benefits when activated by CBD Oil.

Anxiety and Depression

Anxiety and Depression are disorders that plague large numbers of men and women every year. There’s reason to be hopeful if you are someone struggling with either depression or anxiety.

CBD Oil is believed to reduce the symptoms of conditions like PTSD, OCD, and Social Anxiety Disorder.

Depression and Anxiety are disorders of the nervous system and brain. The cluster of CB1 receptors in these areas may be a pathway to recovery for sufferers.

Anti-Inflammatory

Inflammation is a silent killer that many aren’t aware of. Chronic inflammation has a hand in many diseases including heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer’s, and many others.

In brief, inflammation is your body’s response to a health threat. Your immune system flares up to a perceived threat, and ends up in pain, swelling, soreness, fatigue, and more.
Thankfully, CBD oil may be able to help individuals suffering from all kinds of inflammation.

Endocannabinoids (the cannabinoids produced in your body) are known for something called “anti-noiception.” Anti-noiception refers to the blocking of the detection of painful stimuli by sensory neurons, reducing sensitivity to pain.

This effect is largely mediated by receptor, CB1.  This is very promising for phytocannabinoids, like CBD, as they affect the same receptors that endocannabinoids do.

While more research is needed, it seems as though CBD is likely to reduce inflammation, as pain is one of its leading causes.

Heart Health

As well as its many other benefits, CBD is reported to be good for your heart.

The British Journal of Pharmacology indicates that CBD Oil is “cardioprotective” by reducing ventricular arrhythmia and infarct size, placing less strain on your heart.

The anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects of CBD protect the heart against tissue damage, aiding cardiovascular health.

When we spoke about inflammation earlier, we mentioned the analgesic effects that CBD has because of CBD receptor, CB1. In particular, there are three areas that CBD Oil has been shown to help with for pain management - Arthritis, Multiple Sclerosis, and Chronic Pain.

A study in the European Journal for Pain conducted a study on rats with Arthritis using a topical CBD gel. After four days, the rats showed a significant drop in inflammation and signs of pain. Another study examined adults with Multiple Sclerosis (MS).

The study found that short-term use of oral cannabinoids (like CBD Oil) improved patient-reported spasticity symptoms. After synthesizing multiple reviews, researchers concluded that there is substantial evidence that cannabis is an effective treatment for chronic pain in adults.

CBD Oil first burst onto the scene for its reported antiepileptic effects.

That initial burst is being backed by solid research.

The New England Journal of Medicine showed a drastic decrease in convulsive seizures among children with Dravet Syndrome, up to 23 percentage points greater than placebo.

Epilepsy is one of the few disorders for which the effect of CBD has been studied on humans instead of animals.

This research is very important to anyone with epileptic tendencies.

A new branch of CBD products is available for pets including cats, dogs, horses, and others.

Because pets have an endocannabinoid system as well, they stand to benefit from CBD Oil much in many of the same ways people do.

CBD Pet Oil is said to have a beneficial effect on:

● Social Anxiety
● Pain
● Separation Anxiety
● Joints & Hips
● Hyperactivity

As with people, we recommend a conservative does (.25 - .5 mg / kg) to start.

If you do not see the desired results after an extended period of time, increase your dose by .25 mg/kg until you find the correct dose.

As with people, pets won’t all respond in the same way. Let your pet be the one to dictate dosing.

CBD may also be a solution for weight loss. CBD Oil can help level out blood sugar, break down fat, and help burn calories.

A study performed in the scientific journal Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry revealed CBD can convert white fat tissue (storage fat) to brown fat tissue, which burns fat.

Brown fat is also believed to improve glucose tolerance, increasing resistance to diabetes.

While more research will help confirm these studies, early signs are good for weight loss and CBD.

With so many research-supported benefits, you might ask, “How do you take CBD Oil?”

Typically, CBD Oil is found in tincture form and taken sublingually with a dropper.

While we have a more comprehensive dosing guide, understand that basic metabolic factors like weight, age, and sex will factor into dosing.

Here are a few dosing recommendations we have:

● Incremental dosing - Start small (5mg-20mg) and work your way up to find your correct dose.

● Give it time. Don’t expect overnight results. Results can take many weeks to take effect.

● Consult your doctor about taking CBD Oil with other medications.

CBD may have an impact on the effectiveness of other medications.

As we have covered in another post on skin care, CBD Oil has a number of benefits for skin care, both for prevention and improvement.

There have been suggestions that CBD can help benefit conditions like Eczema, Psoriasis, and Acne, largely through interactions with Cannabinoids in the skin and controls on skin cell overproduction.

CBD Oil may also be able to slow skin aging through its antioxidant effects. Things like UV rays, smoke, and environmental pollutants create free radicals, age skin, and add wrinkles.

CBD helps defend the skin against these damaging freed radicals.

The Future of CBD Oil

At the time of writing, Indiana has just passed CBD-specific legislation, making it explicitly legal for residents of Indiana to possess CBD Oil.

While CBD Oil is technically legal as long as it’s sourced from Industrial Hemp, as Indiana shows, many more states will draw up CBD-specific laws to clear up any confusion.

This is great for the consumer. As CBD becomes a staple in state legislation, more research will be conducted and better products will become available.

At Hemp Bombs, we have always been conscious of CBD Oil legality. As well as manufacturing a product without THC and to CGMP standards, we have full-time legal support team to help us make sure we are on the right side of the law.

Please consider Hemp Bombs when purchasing your next CBD Oil. We have affordable prices and as many options as any CBD brand.
